The Overlooked Leadership Skill That Changes Everything

Why reconnecting with your body helps you lead with clarity — especially under pressure
In my work coaching attorneys, leaders, and high-performing professionals, I often hear some version of this:
“I’m fine during the day… but I crash at night.”
“I know what to do, but I still freeze or shut down in tough moments.”
“I’m constantly thinking about work — even on weekends.”
They’re not talking about stress in a dramatic way. They’re just describing what feels “normal.”
But behind the words, I hear something else: They’re stuck in their heads.
In high-performance cultures — especially in the legal profession — we’re rewarded for quick thinking, anticipating risk, and always being “on.”
That survival-mode wiring works… until it doesn’t.
Why does this matter for leadership?
Because how you relate to yourself under stress is how you lead.
The moments when your team is struggling…
The conflict that shows up in your firm…
The inner pressure to perform without showing vulnerability…
All of it hinges on your ability to stay grounded in yourself — not just mentally, but physically and emotionally.
One practice I teach my clients (that changes everything):
👉 Drop into your body — for 30 seconds.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Take a breath.
Place a hand on your heart.
Name what’s here, without fixing it.
It’s a small act, but it breaks the trance of urgency and helps you come back to center.
You don’t need to meditate for an hour or take a sabbatical.
You just need space — a moment of awareness — to lead from presence, not pressure.
If you’re a lawyer or leader navigating burnout, conflict, or major change — and you want to lead with more clarity and calm — I’d love to support you.
While my coaching availability is limited right now as I settle into my family’s home in Oregon, I’m offering a few complimentary Leadership Breakthrough Sessions for professionals who are ready to approach leadership differently — from the inside out.
